On Monday I joined Sadiq Khan, Minister for Transport, in Piccadilly to announce that the government has fully approved the plans for the Metrolink extension.  The Labour council and I have been lobbying the government to sign off on the plans for the past few weeks and it's great to hear that all our hard work has paid off.  Now work on the extension can really get underway and we are one step closer to having one of the best public transport systems in the country.
 
However, the funding could stil be under threat from the Tories if they get into power.  Only Labour is committed to the Metrolink, providing better public transport links, creating jobs and working towards a more ecofriendly city.  The Conservatives have refused to safeguard the plans.  I will continue to fight to preserve this investment, along with the Labour Council, as to lose this funding would be disastrous for our community; without the extension of Metrolink the villages of Chorlton and Didsbury stand to lose out on potential investments and economic growth.
